A melancholy interpretation of Pharrell’s worldwide mega-hit shouldn’t be possible; that thing is sunshine in mp3 form. But Polish-French polymath Woodkid has somehow pulled it off, replacing the shuffling soul of the original “Happy” with plaintive piano and an orchestral backing, creating something wonderfully bittersweet.
